San
Sisto was established by the Dominican Sisters of Eastern Australia and the
Solomons in 1961. While the college is now part of the Brisbane Catholic
Education system, it is still a school ‘in the Dominican tradition’ where the Dominican charism is cherished. San
Sisto maintains strong relationships with the Dominican Sisters of Eastern
Australia and the Solomons and with their secondary schools, Santa Sabina in
Sydney and Siena in Melbourne, as well as many other schools in the Dominican
tradition. The Dominican motto of 'Veritas' is part of our 800 year
old heritage.
Our
students attend Common Ground, a conference for students from Dominican schools
which is held biennially. Staff
members attend the Dominican Education Conference, also held biennially and are
able to undertake a Dominican Pilgrimage through Spain, France and Italy,
offered at regular intervals. The Principal and, on occasion, other
members of the college leadership team, attend meetings of the Dominican
Education Network.
Together with St Martin’s Primary
School, also established by the Dominican Sisters of Eastern Australia and the
Solomons, San Sisto celebrates Dominican Family Day each year on a date close
to St Dominic’s Feast Day.
The college supports the work of
Dominicans in the Solomon Islands and South Africa and of the Dominican Sisters
of the Rosary in Timor L’este.
